Taking flight

Lynn's College of Aeronautics is more than an area of study—it is a gateway to a global industry shaped by innovation and leadership. Through immersive learning experiences, students gain the knowledge and hands-on practical skills to navigate aviation's evolving landscape, whether they aspire to fly commercial aircraft, lead airline operations or help shape the future of aerospace technology.

For Alyssa Duffy '25, that journey began with a clear goal: becoming a pilot. But her experience at Lynn showed her that a career in aviation can take flight in many advantageous directions. "An aviation management degree gives me so many options," said Duffy. "From supply chains to operations, it blends aviation and business, so I'm not pigeonholed into just one or two career paths—I'll have countless opportunities."

I think the biggest thing about Lynn is the network. Our aviation college is smaller, so we build connections that last a lifetime.

Throughout her time at Lynn, Duffy became a leader within the university's aviation community. As former president of Lynn's Women in Aviation International chapter and vice president of the Lynn Air Line Pilots Association Aviation Collegiate Education Club, she helped build connections among students while encouraging others to pursue careers in aviation.

Leading the pack

Duffy's dedication to aviation leadership has earned national recognition:

International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading Foundation Scholarship: $10,000 in 2024 for her undergraduate studies and $16,000 in 2026 for her master's degree.

Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Education Scholarship: $4,000 in 2025; Duffy was the first Lynn University recipient and one of the scholarship's top two national recipients.

National ALPA recognition: Invited to ALPA headquarters in Washington, D.C., to observe an executive board meeting.

Women in Aviation International: Selected to participate in a collegiate panel at the 2024 Orlando conference.

Her leadership also took her beyond campus. Duffy participated in a study abroad experience in Montreal, Canada, where she attended the International Civil Aviation Organization conference alongside fellow aviation colleagues. There, she explored global aviation regulations, artificial intelligence's growing role in the industry and airline operation procedures.

Duffy's dedication to aviation leadership has earned national recognition, including the $10,000 International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading Foundation Scholarship and the $5,000 South Florida Women in Aviation Scholarship. She was also selected to participate in a collegiate panel at the Women in Aviation International 2024 Orlando Conference.

As she works to complete her MBA at Lynn, Duffy leaves a framework for students that reflects the institution's vision for the College of Aeronautics. "I think the biggest thing about Lynn is the network," said Duffy. "Our aviation college is smaller, so we build connections that last a lifetime."
